California, the Golden State
In addition to California’s abundant amount of sunshine it has an exciting and colorful history that is full of stories of finding gold. California is called the “Golden State”, because of the fascinating history behind the Gold Rush. The discovery of gold lead to thousands of people to start flocking to the state in late 1848 in hopes to strike it rich themselves. These gold hunters, later known as the 49ers came from all corners of the world to live and work under harsh conditions for months to fulfill a dream of striking rich after an abrupt discovery of gold in the American territory of California. The Gold Rush granted riches to only a handful of miners, but provided Americans and many foreigners a new homeland and life.
